Process and Role of Translating Resistance Literature: Short Fiction as a Model
Abstract
This article examines the linguistic, technical, and cultural dimensions of translating resistance literature, focusing specifically on the short story genre. The first section establishes a theoretical foundation by exploring the challenges of translating resistance narratives, interrogating "loss in translation," and situating short fiction alongside parallel literary genres. It also analyzes the socio-political agency of translated texts, evaluating how they amplify the original work's intent. The second section narrows this scope to the pragmatic processes of translating resistance short fiction, analyzing how translators navigate technical and cultural barriers. Finally, the article contextualizes these dynamics within the Palestinian experience, demonstrating how translation serves as a vital vehicle for cultural preservation, political articulation, and international solidarity.
