Performance in higher education institutions: A theoretical approach
Abstract
The concept of performance is central because it represents an indicator of efficiency, quality and success. It allows us to assess whether objectives are being met, processes are effective and efforts are producing the expected results. Analysing performance allows us to identify areas for improvement in order to develop and remain effective. Through this contribution, we seek to highlight the role that governance can play in the performance of higher education institutions. We have explored the various elements that influence performance, particularly university governance. To understand the relationship between performance and governance, we have examined several theories, namely stakeholder theory, agency theory, transaction cost theory, institutional theory and neo-institutional theory. This has provided a conceptual framework for our study. The aim of our article is to present a review of the literature on the issue of performance in higher education institutions. In the first section, we will present a review of the literature on the concept of performance, and in the second section, its theoretical framework.
